Marija Jaensch
Marija Jaensch (1979 – Netherlands)
Marija Jaensch is an artist who opens dialogues with works from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Through art historical research, she analyses spatial characteristics such as floor patterns, perspectives and light distributions, reconstructing them as independent textile compositions. Her practice involves meticulous study – counting squares and mapping colours row by row – through which she detects and preserves original irregularities. Creating her own dyes from natural ingredients, she cuts and sews fabrics into monumental works, approaching textile as a fine art medium. These labour-intensive reconstructions transform background elements into striking geometric abstractions that defy regular patterns, asserting themselves as contemporary works. Through collaboration with Galleria Barovier&Toso, she brings glass into her art historical exchange with the past.
