DROWNING IN A GLASS OF WATER
Fabrizio Plessi's First Significant Murano Glass Exhibition
Fabrizio Plessi's monumental ring installation stands among four historic Barovier&Toso chandeliers, creating a dialogue between contemporary vision and centuries-old craftmanship. This central work embodies the artistic collaboration with Galleria Barovier&Toso, emerging from the world's oldest glassworks company with roots tracing back to 1295. Featuring moving water imagery accompanied by water sounds, the installation represents the union between Plessi and Barovier&Toso, where his aquatic artistic vision meets the fire of Murano furnaces.
The adjacent bar space houses Plessi's interpretation of archetypal glass forms: bottles and drinking glasses, the fundamental vocabulary of glass production for over three millennia. These vessels, which have remained central to glassmaking since antiquity, are transformed into autonomous sculptures through his distinctive turbolenza style. The works deliberately abandon their utilitarian origins: largely solid rather than hollow, capable of containing only minimal liquid, they are rendered heavy and non-functional. Through spiralling, wave-like distortions, liquid motion becomes the very form of the glass itself. The bar area also displays drawings that serve as crucial artifacts of the creative process, offering insight into the genesis of forms realized in glass.
Connecting these spaces, a dedicated display presents the perfume bottle 'Movimenti dell'anima' (Movements of the Soul), which mirrors the central ring's geometry while incorporating Plessi's signature turbulent forms, celebrating this extraordinary collaboration between artistic vision and Murano's legendary craftsmanship.
