Overview
Galleria Barovier&Toso announces the opening of a new exhibition space at Palazzo Barovier&Toso on the island of Murano, Venice. The inaugural exhibition ‘Glass Art in Dialogue’ reflects the gallery's mission to promote glass as an autonomous medium of expression in the context of contemporary art. The exhibition features artists Marija Jaensch and Amy Thai. Both were involved in the collective tribute that Fondazione Barovier&Toso dedicated to Venice and its natural environment during the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale: the exhibition ‘H2O Venezia: Water Diaries’. Selected for the launch exhibition ‘Glass Art in Dialogue’, Jaensch and Thai worked with glass for the first time, collaborating closely with master glassmakers to translate their artistic visions into this new material. The exhibition brings together the glass works created through this experience alongside pieces from 'H2O Venezia: Water Diaries', creating a dynamic dialogue between glass, stone and textile. By presenting two artists whose works entered the Fondazione Barovier&Toso Collection, the gallery places glass – the city's defining material – at the centre of a dialogue between different media.
