In this bold textile work entitled 'The Annunciation', Jaensch isolates and reconstructs the geometric floor pattern from Giovanni dal Ponte's Brozzi altarpiece of ca. 1410/1415. Now at the Museo di Arte Sacra of San Donnino in Campi Bisenzio, the original altarpiece presents the Annunciation scene with the Virgin Mary, Archangel Gabriel, Saint Eustace and Saint Anthony Abbot against a gilt background. What captured Jaensch's attention was its strikingly modern floor pattern – an early Renaissance experiment with perspective through bold pink, green, yellow, and black geometric shapes that anticipate Op Art by centuries. Through careful study of the altarpiece, Jaensch discovered and preserved a subtle irregularity in the upper left corner where the pattern deviates from its rhythm. By extracting the floor pattern from its devotional context, her textile work transforms a background element into a striking abstraction that highlights the surprisingly modern character of Quattrocento Italian painting.
