Peter Kogler

These cylindrical tubes showcase the ancient
Venetian ‘filigrana’ technique, where delicate glass threads are twisted and
fused to create intricate linear patterns, their parallel strands and
interlocking geometries closely reflecting Kogler’s signature visual language
of networks, circuits and data flows. The connection reveals itself to be a
genuine surprise: a language developed on the computer over forty years turned
out to be related to a centuries-old glass technique. In adopting the form of a
vase, one of the most traditional vessels in the history of glassmaking, and
reinterpreting it as a tube, Kogler plays with the conventions of the tradition
while remaining entirely within its vocabulary.
