Amy Thai's 'Undercurrent' series
explores contrasting forces – permanence and fluidity, weight and lightness,
strength and fragility. The large glass sculptures push the technical limits of
the medium. Each piece consists of multiple floral elements joined while the
glass is still hot – a demanding process requiring speed and precision from the
master glassmakers. The pieces range in surface and colour: from transparent
crystal, sandblasted matt and clear glass with internal iridescence that
creates layered depths to warm amber. Each sculpture captures and transforms
light differently, the solid glass creating paradoxical effects of weight and
luminosity, opacity and transparency.
