Amy Thai's 'Undercurrent' series explores contrasting forces – permanence and fluidity, weight and lightness, strength and fragility. This glass sculpture stands apart from the other works in the series: rather than being assembled from multiple elements joined while hot, it is formed from a single piece of glass. The unified material flows and folds continuously, creating a form that appears simultaneously solid and weightless. Internal iridescence creates layered depths within the crystal-clear glass, shifting as light moves through the sculpture. The transparent material captures and refracts light throughout its mass, revealing interior movements frozen within. The seamless construction emphasizes the sculptural gesture – a single, uninterrupted movement that transforms dense material into fluid form.
