Galleria Barovier&Toso announces the opening of a new exhibition space at Palazzo Barovier&Toso on the island of Murano, Venice. The inaugural show, 'Glass Art in Dialogue', reflects the gallery's mission to promote glass as an autonomous medium of expression in contemporary art. It features artists Marija Jaensch and Amy Thai, both selected from Fondazione Barovier&Toso's 2024 group exhibition 'H2O Venezia: Diari d'acqua', a collective tribute to Venice during the 60th Venice Biennale. Working with glass for the first time, Jaensch and Thai collaborated with master glassmakers to translate their artistic visions into this new material. The show brings together glass sculptures alongside works in stone and textile, creating a dialogue between different media.
The catalogue by Mara Hofmann, Director of Galleria Barovier&Toso, introduces the project and examines Marija Jaensch's textile and glass works that open conversations with medieval and Renaissance paintings, transforming historical patterns into contemporary abstractions, as well as Amy Thai's 'Undercurrent' series, which bridges the ephemeral and permanent through marble and glass sculptures inspired by water's transformative forces.
