To explore the diverse artistic possibilities of glass beyond Murano's celebrated glassblowing tradition, Galleria Barovier&Toso presents the exhibition 'Stillness in Motion', featuring cast glass sculptures by acclaimed Czech artist Vlastimil Beránek. While Murano has long championed blown glass, Beránek's work showcases casting, a process that transforms molten glass into solid, three-dimensional forms, revealing a distinctly Czech approach to the medium. His sculptures embody a compelling paradox that gives this exhibition its title: capturing movement within absolute stillness.
The catalogue features contributions by Mara Hofmann, Director of Galleria Barovier&Toso, introducing the exhibition; Chiara Squarcina, Scientific Director of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, examining cast glass as contemporary artistic language; Eva Slunečková, tracing Beránek's artistic evolution from student of Stanislav Libenský to master sculptor; and Leif-Erik Hannikainen, documenting the technical and historical evolution of cast glass techniques from ancient civilizations to the revolutionary mould-melted methods that make Beránek's monumental works possible.
